Our Story

Hi! I am Alex and I am Dominic's Mommy!

Dominic's Memory was founded in honor of our firstborn son, Dominic Santiago Reed Martinez Santos. After three miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy, I finally got pregnant in August 2023, shortly after marrying my best friend. From the beginning of my pregnancy, I faced many infections that led to frequent visits to the E.R. Despite these challenges, Dominic was growing well, and everything seemed normal. Dominic's dad, Matt, and I always joked that he would arrive on April 9th, Matt's birthday, so we celebrated it early. Sure enough, on April 9, 2024, around midnight, I had a feeling to prepare the house for labor while Matt was at work. I lost my mucus plug and excitedly called Matt. We rushed to the E.R. around 4:30 in the morning, but after 30 minutes of searching for Dominic's heartbeat, we were told our precious son didn't have one. Dominic was born sleeping on April 10, 2024, at 3:08 am, weighing 7 lbs and 8 oz, and measuring 19 inches long. He had the sweetest little toes and the most perfect little nose. I wrapped Dominic in the baby blanket I had spent a week crocheting. Coming home empty-handed without our precious Dominic was one of the worst experiences of our lives. My arms ached so much for our curly-haired baby boy, so I picked up my crochet hook and yarn I used to make Dominic's blanket and started to crochet a mantle where his urn now rests upon. That's how it all began. After facing the heartbreak of losing Dominic, I found solace in crocheting keepsakes that honor his memory. I created Dominic's Memory to wrap every baby in love, just like I did for him. It’s a reminder that you’re not alone in your grief. I hope these keepsakes bring some comfort to other parents who are navigating similar losses. You never get over the death of your child, but I hope this brings some level of comfort like it did to me. From one loss family to another, you are not alone and your baby matters.
